Can someone tell me when reattaching the drive shaft how much of the spline is showing....it seems like it only goes on a few millimeters....cant get it to expand to cover the splines going to the engine...

that boot sure gets in the way and I cant seem to pull out the connector any further...any hints???

i can rotate it from the rear end and it turns the shaft but it just doesnt seem right...any help is surely appreciated

thanks

Is the drive shaft bolt in the drive shaft? If so it won't slide on as far as it should.

I usually get a large set of channel locks to hold the front of the shaft. I make sure the engine is in gear. and i wiggle the shaft back and forth till it slides on all the way.

Once you get the shaft on and the pin in try to remove it. Sometimes if the shaft isn't on all the way it will look like it but then in a short ride it falls out.

You got it, thats what i was worried about,,, with a little beer and some elbow grease I got it, turns out I actually needed to release it a bit to get the bolt to go through--any ideas on bolt tourque??also is there a specific grease to use? I have a Clymers but it only really discusses disassembly....

I just want to correct myself Phreak. It's an M8 thread so I use 14/18 Ftlbs(I use 16 Ftlbs) and a little thread lock.

PS

Daft things you do.When I built this bike from the crank up.Had it all together and then comes the,"Moment of Truth" as you settle to press the Starter button for the 1st time on a fresh engine build and you pray to the,"Starter Gods" she fired up 1st time and went into tick-over perfectly.

Then I went to move the bike out of the garage so put it in gear but when I opened the throttle with it in gear no movement.Damn" what's wrong?

After a quick bit of head scratching I saw that damn 12mm Drive bolt on the bench.Doh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd triple checked everything except that ruddy last bolt

The bolts are pretty robust but getting rare.I've only seen one post of one ever sheering. They are high grade steel.

I bought a decent 2nd hand drive shaft of Ebay a few years a go and lucky me it came with a Brand new bolt in a Honda packet.Result
