Hey hoping someone might have a good answer.

I am running the X21 on this ol thing and everything seems to work except one thing. The black/white wire from CDI box that is supposed to go to engine power on X21 is hooked up and it wont start until I unplug it. Engine wont shut off unless I plug it back in. I was told by Brickhouse before they discontinued tech support that I needed to switch the X21 box's engine power switch to the negative due to these specific bike operating on CDI but like a magneto as well. Obviously somethings not right.

Has anyone had to run the X21 on the + power selector side of the switch to make it work? I'm just not trying to fry something here. If nobody knows I'll just wait out until I'm able to get ahold of NWT for support I guess.

CDI black and white wire - this is hte high voltage kill line that gets swiutched to ground to kill the spark -
this can have 200V+ on it - so I wouldn't take it directly to your X21 - which is likely designed to put out 12V ( will still stop it operating - or zero volt)
I'd run it through a relay -

if you look here OEM ignition hookups
you can see how I recommned doing it on my equivalent to the X21 / motogadget.

So run the engine power out to the relay, and the rest is thesame.

point I'm making - is that unless the X21 is designed to accept the high voltage and let it float then you could damage the X21 - so check with NWT./ brickhouse builds.

If its only designed to work with grounnd to battery supply - then it wont work with either setting - as it would clamp your non active voltage to the battery voltage still - and that wont work forthe CDI - it needs to be free to charge to the 200V + level to be able to dump that high voltage into the coils.

Yeah I get what you mean. Brickhouse told me to hook black and white to engine power and move switch to -. Finally got it all together again and wired and tried that. Won't start that way. Reached out again and brickhouse isn't allowed to do tech support any longer so I've emailed nwt and waiting for a response.

Like I said I got relays and Im gonna give it a go. That setup you sent makes sense to me with the way the bike works.

Verify that your kill switch is actually opening the circuit on run.
Are you using the stock controls?

With a stock CDI, your symptom would indicate a shorted switch. I can't help with the aftermarket stuff, but I'd start there.

I’m just starting to install the X21 Plus S System on my 1982 GL500 Silverwing
Assuming you’ve followed all the instructions and wiring diagrams that are available on-line from NWT (which I’m sure you have), I would wait for direct feedback from NWT - err on the side of caution as you dont want to fry the X21 Control Unit.

I’m interested to know how you get on with the X21, so please keep posting.
