What is supposed to route behind the Honda plate on the forks?

Thanks,

They don't usually locate connectors where they are visible, let alone exposed to the elements. Does the FSM show anything under those in the cable routing diagrams?

I didn't see any notes for this in the 81 addendum. Maybe in an 81 Custom specific shop manual? If that exists?

This was the bucket and a wad of wires that was originally crammed behind it...

I just noticed this close up of a connection which I thought suspicious at the time... Black to bucket?

I definitely grounded it when it went back together.

This is the only image that shows the green, red, and console connectors... You can see the console connector that was cut from the original guage cluster to connect some $20 amazon special cafe style guages... These three connectors were behind the Honda crest in those retention bands.

I'm dubious that that's where they belonged, but the bucket won't close with them all in there. I managed, barely, by routing the handlebar control connections (red and green) that way. If they stay there I'll wrap them in tesa to keep them dryish.

I think if you clean the wire connected to the headlight shell you'll find that it is actually green.

I've seen wiring connectors that have to be in exposed locations with rubber covers but they are usually open on the bottom so they can drain. If you wrap yours in tape make sure it won't prevent any water that finds its way inside from getting out.

I believe there is only the addendum for the C model but if it doesn't have cable routing diagrams the ones in the main manual should apply.
It is also possible that the part was originally designed for another model that did use those wire holders and they are not needed in this application. See the attached PDF for information about how to tell which model a part was designed for from the part number.

If you don't find something in the addendum, look in the earlier addenda. The routing diagrams for the Custom are probably in the 1979 Custom and Deluxe addendum.

They are in the 79 Delux and Custom addendum... I didn't look there. It makes sense that they're cumulative.

If anyone else needs it:

One looks like it wants to be the RH controls, and the other...? Any which way, the ones with the longer wiring sections will go there. I have green and red there and can barely close the headlamp. May try swapping red for for the dash/console connector. The only thing that's clear from the diagram is that there's one flat connector and one square.

If anyone has a 79+ custom they can photograph, it would be appreciated.

Best,
EKL

This bike has been worked on by a PO, so i can't claim it to be stock. But it does look to be undisturbed.
