Doesn't the black RR sense wire go to the positive side? Or should that wire be green? .... Or the makers of the RR have colour coded ground as black?

I suspected I was misunderstanding. So ... there IS no sense wire?

The red wire in the standard RR pumps the power into the battery. The black sense wire is used by the RR to sense the state of charge and tells the RR when to start dumping excess power.

If the new system doesn't have one I guess it senses through its red wire.

Red to battery side of solenoid. Black to good solid ground - negative battery terminal is good.

Wait for further advice, but my guess would be that they are now redundant and can be clipped out.
