hello all,

i'm about to start building a cx 500 trike, i have a few questions, relating to UK rules and regs....

A- does the finished trike have to go through an SVA test?

B- I'm going to use round tube for the frame to the back axel - what sort of weight of tubing should I be using?

and other useful info re trikes would be much appreciated also... :)

cheers

B. No idea.

A. Suggest you google it and look for a .gov website. I tend to think it would have to be inspected, as you would be considerably altering it from a two-wheeled motor cycle to a three-wheeled tricycle, and you will be completely altering it's vehicle classification. It will have to be re-registered as a tricycle (and the V5C will state what it is - motor cycle or tricycle), and they are also taxed differently, different MOT class too.

One little thing too, you cannot park it in solo motorcycle parking bays. I saw a cheeky quad-bike rider being told to move it to car bay, and pay for the privelege! Bloody thing took more than the space of two tiddlers, too!

Look up JZR Pilots Assn and similar links. There is some info about MOT for the CX powered RTs. You could be in a similar situation, but from this side of the world....I dont really know. On this side of the world, we are all watching how the Polaris Slingshot introduction plays out, later this month.

It will decide (for many of us) what type of Reverse Trike we will be allowed to build and license as a motorcycle.

Good luck on your project; it wll be fun time in the shop.
