I think I discovered my main culprit for all my backfiring. Thought it was from the crack in the carb insulator, but when I pulled the carbs last night for cleaning I found the O-Ring had obviously slipped when who-ever installed the carbs last and it was mangled and separated at one point. Guess it is off to the hardware store for a new one.
