I've recently tested my stator using the guide on this forum and found that my stator and left pickup (trigger coil internally) need to be replaced. I'm looking to go with the most simple upgrade path that will modernize the entire system.

The bike in question is a 1979 CX500 Custom (CDI) that is all original.

My proposed setup is:
I have a few questions regarding this setup:
  1. When installing the new G8 stator, can I completely remove the CDI trigger pickups (silver metal things)?
  2. Should I select a 2.0ms or 5.0ms dwell for Murray's coil on plug solution?
    1. Will I also be able to switch back to the OEM CDI coils in the future if needed?
  3. Is there anything missing in this setup or will it work as proposed?

Thanks for the help!

The G8/V4 combo will work but I don't think the coils will.

The coils will work with the V3.The V4 uses 12 volt 3.5 ohm coils.

But, on my bike right now I am testing the V4.5 - which is CDI coil compatible. You could check the Raesan site for updates. Or PM member Rayman.

Ray is also working on COPS packs.

ok - Murrays COPs are CDI cops - not 12V cops - so thats a NO for v4 -
it needs to be as CX phreak pointed our a V3.5 which still uses the GY6 modules to drive the COP.

Actually CX PHREAK is testing the update to the V4 - running with a 3.5ms dwell into the Forsett coils -

I put some selection charts up the other day to help people - selection charts

use the upgrade chart and the knowledge that murrayss COPS are CDI -

there are updates with a pile of coil testing in the On The Bench section of the site -
I have a set of CDI cops that are due to go to CXphreak in a couple of days - pictures are on the site (SeaDoo CDI COPS)
