Is it in the headlight, or in this 'box' I see (#26 in the parts fiche for an '82 GL500) between the forks?

It should be in the headlight. I don't think you should have a box unless your bike is a GL interstate that was converted to a naked GL.

The GL500 headlight bucket is extremely thin, though - I'm just not seeing any way for the wiring to all fit.



A pic would be GREAT, if anyone has one!

It doesn't fit. That's big part of the problem.

The naked GL500 wiring connectors are definitely hidden inside the headlight bucket. It is a very tight fit and you may have to get creative about spreading the connectors around, but it will fit.



Just to be sure, are you certain the headlight bucket is for a GL500? It should be stamped with HM-27S.

My GL was a silverwing but is now nakey and has a box full of wires behind the custom light I will have to repost a photo of it. I was on the old forum but could not get back on

I will remove as much wire as possible and then dump the box.

Here is a pic from when I took the fairing off of my wife's GL and put it on mine. All of that wiring will fit in there, you just have to shove it all in.

I've got that same rat's nest stuffed into my headlight bucket. It will fit but it can be a challenge to get it closed up again.
