I have purchased some of these kits and was wondering what other riders thought of them. To me they seem ok, but do not match exactly what the original parts are.

What are your thoughts?

I've bought a few things off these guys as they used to be right next door. Most stuff is ok but tends to be somewhat generic as the kits are rarely bike-specific.

I bought a full gasket set from them for the GL which they asserted was good for both the CX & the GL, which wasn't quite true; the pulsar cover gasket for a start. But, on top of that, the o-rings for the oil passages at the head were the wrong size so I had to reuse the old ones and the dowel holes on the head gaskets didn't line up and I had to enlarge them to fit.

Next time I was in I let them know and they seemed to take my concerns seriously although I never did follow up on it. The owner offered to get me another set of head gaskets but I'd already got some Honda ones. I don't know how well they respond to email questions but there's a couple of guys there who seem to know their stuff.

I did just notice on their ebay store that their mailing address doesn't look to be updated so you might want to confirm that with them.

Personally, if Honda still sells it that'll be my first choice.

The picture in the e-bay listing shows a screw in idle jet/emulsion tube. I think the '70s CX carbs came with pressed in ones. What's the big aluminum plug with the screw driver slot for? Seems like about half the items in this kit are usless and it's missing some important "O" rings, new air cut valves and accelerator pump. Take a look at Randall Washington's web site. I think it's Randakks or something like that. He offers a very complete carb overhaul kit minus the jets. I've used his kit and it had everything I needed to replace all rubber parts and "O" rings in both carbs. plus new bowl screws. You should rarely need new brass jets. Larry has the drill bit diameters in his book to clean them out to origional dimensions.

That's what I meant about the kits being generic. SCI does tend to have everything you need but it might not be in the kit and you're probably going to find out the hard way that you have to go back and order more parts. I was surprised when I found out that they were so big into mail-order; their old shop was tiny. Although I guess you don't need a big store if you're mail-order, you just need a big warehouse. And a lot of stamps.

They did sell, install & balance a set of Spitfires for me at quite a reasonable price though. For Canada at least.
