I'm starting to reinstall the parts that the PO took off before he stored the bike.



After stopping in at the Honda dealer to get some o-rings for the intakes and some coolant I realized Honda really does want an arm and a leg for parts.



Since I need both my arms and legs for riding I decided to get as much as I can elsewhere. I already got the o-rings from the plumbing supply place just down the street from the Honda dealer for much less.



I called the CarQuest autoparts I normally use for the coolant and they said that normal Prestone that they carry is silicate free.



Do any of you nice CX/CL people have a preference regarding coolant?



Honda wants $8 per quart (~1L) premixed, but Prestone is $14 per gallon (~3.8L) undiluted.

I use the silicate free Prestone. It can be hard to find. Just read the labels.

cheapest you can find,flush and replace every year

as long as its ok for auminium engines,its fine

I use cheap Car coolant.Change every year or every other year.

I just bought the Honda premix at their ridiculous price but all antifreeze has been expensive for the past several years. I was hoping it would be blue but it turned out to look just as green as the ordinary old stuff. Toyota makes a good silicate free formula that I believe is bright red but probably even more expensive. At least nobody can accuse me of using inferior fluids in mine should I ever sell it.



It'll always get Shell Rotella 15W40 with the occasional 5W-40 synthetic mixed in on occasion.

Genuine Honda coolant, Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil, Honda Moly grease and DOT 5.1 brake fluid.

Unless I'm pressed into E10 in an emergency or out of town trip it will only get 100% gasoline.



Very anxious to see how that DOT 5.1 fluid works out, less compressible and half the viscosity should mean better brake response. Of course I've got new pads up front and new shoes in the back, stainless steel hose and an original master cylinder since I've ridden it last so that entire system is going to feel a lot different anyway. When I first got it the brakes really sucked in my opinion but I'm used to lightweight dirt bikes and cars that come to a stop in very short order.
