I have the Viton valve stem seals available (equiv to Honda 12209-MB9-003) for these CX bikes (also fit SOHC CB750). They are high quality, and stay very pliable after many heat cycles unlike the stock Honda ones. These have a much higher temperature rating, and guys at several different forums have been using similar Viton valve stem seal models for various bikes for a several years now. We've used the stock seals and various aftermarket ones, and these seals have performed and lasted better than all of them, IMHO.

At the risk of hijacking this great thread, this is another instance where NLA or overpriced parts can be sourced from other bikes a huge discount. Honda wanted 35 bucks for a diode for my neutral light, and then couldn't even find it in their catalogs or websites. I found an identical one for a 125 cc Honda that was about 5 bucks including shipping from Singapore or somewhere. It took 2-1/2 weeks but then a neutral light is a convenience and the time was worth it.

The actual purpose of using these Viton valve stem seals isn't so much just due to the price, it's the fact that the Viton ones are far superior to the originals, but I understand what you're saying.

Actually, for diodes, I usually cut up the old OEM case and solder a new diode on the connectors (make sure to get the polarity right) and then pot it back up. The actual diodes that go in the case are cheap, like less than $1, and available in electronics stores. Depending on what it's for, anything over 50v, 2A general purpose diode in an axial package is probably fine. You can usually buy something like 20 diodes that will work for $5 online, or try a salvage electronics supply, like All Electronics in Van Nuys. I usually keep several on hand because I build little things where I need a blocking diode, rectifier, or something.

As many of us grow older, what tenure do we see in this availability? Is this post something we could add to the Wiki for future reference?

Well, I plan on having them for the foreseeable future, I can't say about time immemorial. I suppose if the activity is enough to keep doing it, why not? If I ever do plan on stopping, I'll notify the various fora where I make them available and try to appoint or get someone else to handle them. That's how I came across selling the ones for the DOHC 750s/CBXs, and since I was doing them, Murray asked if I'd like to do the CX's too, which I then found were the same ones for the big GLs and the SOHC 750s. It just kind of got bigger when I started like that. Now I have some replacement grade 12.9 cam cap bolts for the DOHC 750/CBX bikes too. The stock ones for those series bikes are under spec'd IMO, and break with not too much provocation... and other's concur. But still, it's just a little spare time endeavor. ;)

I had very little time, so I asked Phreak to do it. Thanks Mark.
