I'm planning to buy a car and motorbike in the US in September.

I've been told that there's no way of checking the vehicles history to see whether it's been stolen at any time in the past. If US Customs find that it has been stolen years ago you lose the car, even if it has a clear title now.

Does anyone know if this is correct, or where can I find out the facts I need?

Are you comming to the U.S. to buy or are you having it shipped? What state are you purchasing from? Have you seen a copy of the title(s)?

carfax should tell you everything you need to know.

CarFax is far from accurate, thy still don't have any record of the wreck that virtually totaled my pace car 5 years ago.



Best thing to do is call the local police department in that area directly with the make/model/VIN # and be honest.
