Hi all, After tearing apart & cleaning the carbs on my "Commuter" '80 CX 500D I picked up when I was rebuiling my totaled my '94 VFR. I was hoping to improve the throttle response. She has a little over 25k on her now she was at 21k when I picked her up. After going through the carbs, I was about to put her back together when I pulled on the end of one of the cables & it kept comming
So now I need to replace both, does anyone know of a direct replacement? or is it time for me to create my own or replace with another throttle assembly?

Thanks in advance

Gary

Motion Pro still makes ALL the cables for CX500's (or at least the 80 CX500D). Any local motorcycle shop with a parts catalog should be able to look it up. I usually do it this way since they can get the cables in 2-3 days. Local sales tax vs. shipping is pretty much a wash.

well did both cables break? or just one i know a lot of people on here only run one cable if the spring is strong enough on the carb it will pull the throttle closed

The B push cables are there for a purpose. The springs in constant velocity carburettors are not very strong by design and the B cable helps close the slide on throttling down. There are a few,but not many, people who may run with just a single A cable at their own risk.

That's only to get you home, where you can fix it correctly. I wouldn't trust it as a long term solution.

Anyone ever get the Motion Pro's? I know they have a good reputation, but I was wondering if they have the OEM style Chrome ends, the ones on MoPro's site are all black.

It's a mixed bag -

Throttle cables

carb-side = chrome, handlebar-side = black (with black adjusters)

Instrument cables

sending end = black , instrument end=steel (not chrome)

Clutch cables

clutch-side = black corrugated rubber boot, handlebar-side = chrome tip (hidden by adjuster though)

At least from my experience ordering for 1980 CX500D from my supplier...
