My bike has what appears to be a thottle lock/cruise control mechanism on it. I went through the shop manual and did not see any references or pictures for it so I am assuming that this is an aftermarket add-on. its a thin plastic clamp looking think that goes around the throttle sleeve and has a little thumb lever that seems like it is supposed to lock it when pressed. Mine does not lock the throttle in position. So my question is there an adjustment to make to get this to work properly?

It kind of looks like this:

Could be a couple reasons why it might lock. First would be are you sure you're trying to use it right. The thumb lever flips out for disengaged and you press it in for it to lock. Another would be that it wore a grove in the tube so it won't lock. And the third would be that it isn't adjusted right. There is a screw that goes threw it that can be tightened to adjust it.

Stitch,

When I was testing it out, I would rotate the throttle open and press the thumb lever in/down to what should be the locked position, but the throttle slowly returns to the closed position. I will check for the adjustment screw you mentioned. It would be nice to have this function properly for longer rides.

As mine have worn a little I have to use the Saw blade on my Multi-tool I keep in my bike tool kit as it has like two teeth pointing out at the end of it like a Vee that fit just nice into the special lock nut in my Vista Cruise Control.

I found the sound off recreational, inc website and found directions, I will try the adjustment after work today.

On a side note.I would never be without my Throttle locks on my bikes.Way too good for relieving fatigue.Even a 10 second break on the throttle can work wonders. Also I've developed a technique with my throttle locks for where I'm on a long clear stretch whereby I raise my thumbs on top of the bars but still have control. This also relieves,"Tinglies" if required.

I attempted to adjust my Vista Cruise with no luck. I think it is just too old and worn out. The adjustment screw didnt seem to do anything. I think I will just bite the bullet and buy a new one.

Take it off and look at it first. You might be missing something that you don't know at the moment. All it does is clamp down.

I already ordered the replaement. The one that I have on it right now does not stay clamped down, and does not keep the throttle from returning to the closed position.

Don't throw it away.Keep it as a spare.Take it apart and hack saw off a little of the threaded stud to allow the unusual nut to tighten more.I had to do this on one of mine as it wore. It's still not as good as new but works just enough.
