I am considering getting 'later' wheels for my bike.

I have the Camstars with the spokes curving out so you can see the edges.

The later wheels have those same curves inward, so you don't see the edge.

They also have those cool little rubber things on the ends of the spokes.

i think the rear wheel of the latter is a bigger diameter wheel (correct?)

Question: Will that bigger diameter wheel get me better mileage and higher top end?

(I know the tire size is also a determining factor)

Thanks

Actually, you have reverse comstar wheels,,the earlier 78 had the comstar wheels that have the edges turned in and the black plastic trim pieces on them.

As far as rpm and top speed , there may be a slight drop in rpm and increase in speed but if the outside tire diameter is almost the same it will be minor.

I don't think there are any real minuses if you do this.

I'm sure others will have varying opinions.

I did the switch a few weeks ago. I love it. The tire is a little bit smaller, and two inches taller, and I've noticed a 2-3 MPG mileage increase (because a lot of my riding is on the highway) and a HUGE increase in handling over the stock 16 inch rim. Plus, the bike looks a hell of a lot nicer, at least in my opinion. I think that the tire size is a 110/90-18.

plus one, nothing but better in everywhich way.

i did it a year ago, payed for itself, time and time again.you want an 18 inch wheel.readily available in the uk,not quite as easy to find over there

i posted this last october in another thread

i put an 18 wheel on my gl back last may.best thing i did.

more mpg

cheaper and a better selection of tyres.

range on the tank increased dramatically.

lower revs.

anyway,my gl does 10 mph more than the revcounter shows.......

4000 rpm equals 50 mph [in top gear]

5000 rpm equals 60 mph.....and so on.

4th gear equates the rpm same as mph..

example ...4000rpm equals 40mph

...........5000rpm equals 50mph
