So far your aunts lucky because only older men have died from it here. I keep checking the virus update and we seem to be gaining 16 cases a day here in Milwaukee county.

I hope the 2 or 3 weeks of inactivity slows the spread like they hope but I have a stupid coworker who refuses to cancel a trip to Tampa Bay florida on friday and then on to Miami for a week.

Then there's also the stupid spring breakers.

Today we shut down everything non essential or where people gather. Hotels, nightclubs, casinos etc. I think about a million people just lost their jobs.

Tomorrow most states, including South Australia close their borders.

Interesting times ahead.

Keep safe people.

My current position is to consider everyone beyond the 4 walls of my home as a carrier of Covid-19.

I need to walk my dog 3X/day (min), so I'm out everyday, but I do not allow others to interact with my dog or me. Always at a distance of 10 feet (3m).

Trips to the store are handled with more caution. When I leave my vehicle, I will put on a pair of nitrile gloves. There are too many touch points in a store. The gloves are removed and trashed when I get back into my vehicle. I only go out shopping for items I can't get shipped to my door.

Some common touch points:
handles (all types)
buttons (credit card readers, lifts, phone.....)
any product on a shelf (how many other people have touch it....)

True story that just occurred with me yesterday.
I was looking for magnetic door catches at the local DIY store. Couldn't find the item, so I asked an employee to assist. He pulled out his cell phone.....began fumbling.... making idle conversation. I realized he was likely a student from the local university. I asked,"How was Spring Break?" His reply, "Good." I asked, "Were you on a beach in Florida?" His reply with a big grin, "No, I was on a Corpus Christy beach in Texas." As I stepped back, I said,"Ahhh, then you are a likely carrier. I'll find it on my own. Thank you." I walked away. His retort, "If I do get it, its just a cold." So, I found my item, purchased and won't return to that DIY store for awhile.

Stupid people are going to help USA make a spike that will put Italy and China to shame.

Yep, we had beaches packed with people yesterday.

Today the government did not foresee the crowds that would descend on social security offices to claim for unemployment.

It should have been by day alphabetically or month of birth or some such. Huge queues and crowds. The claims could always be backdated.

The computer online system crashed.

To those ordering from Amazon(or wherever) be aware that COVID-19 can last 24hrs on cardboard. Either leave packages on porch for a day or be careful opening your stuff.

We spray everything with aerosol disinfectant before opening. Then snip a corner and spray in the bag and shake and bake a bit. Then get the item out and spray some more. Ditto if there's further packaging.

I spray inside my backpack when I get home from shopping, seal it up and leave it a while. Then spray the items as they come out.

Paranoia can be a healthy thing.

Here most people file for Employment Insurance online.

I was getting ready to have a sale to get rid of the remaining pile of computer stuff we inherited from our son and once that stuff was out of the garage have the wood to rebuild the back deck delivered into the garage. I don't think garage sales will be allowed this year so I've decided to do the deck first; The neighbour saw me working yesterday and came over to chat but we both kept our distance to be safe.

I will be shopping today. I'll report on what the stores look like when I get home.

Son Eric dropped by after work last Friday to do laundry and have dinner at home with me. I met him at the door with a measuring tape with 6 feet sticking out. My attempt at a little plague humor, anyway he thought it was funny.

I had to go out today to pick up some parts that were missing from something I bought, buy a tool I need for dismantling the back deck and get a few groceries.
  • Canadian Tire (national chain of auto parts/hardware/sporting goods/housewares &c stores) was letting people come & go freely but they had a bigger sign on the hand wipes station at the entrance (I did the handle of the cart after I did my hands) but they had taped lines on the floor and signs asking customers to stay behind the lines as much as possible. Staff working in the aisles were friendly but they are keeping a good distance away.
  • Giant Tiger (sort of a Canadian "Walmart Jr.) was wide open but didn't seem crowded. They had a station near the door with hand wipes (I did the cart handle there too). I mostly went there because they're the only place that has the brand of tissues that we like, which they were out of, as well as TP. (We would have normally bought tissues last week if they were available and we have nearly a month's worth of TP but I was curious). And because they had bacon on sale

  • Major grocery chain #1 (where I bought most of the groceries we needed today) was limiting the number of people in the store, making sure everyone uses hand sanitizer and weren't allowing customers to touch a cart until the staff that were controlling the entrance wiped down its handle first. And they are not allowing people to bring their own bags into the store. Stock seemed generally a bit lower than normal but they had nearly everything except flour (we have lots but I noticed the empty shelves), TP and tissues (but had some paper towels). And bananas were only 31 cents per pound so I bought as many as I figured I'd eat before they got too ripe
    ;-)
  • Major grocery chain #2 had people at the door to make sure you use hand sanitizer but were otherwise not controlling entry. They were almost as crowded as normal with at all checkouts open and lineups at all of them. It looked pretty well stocked but had no TP or tissues and I didn't spend a lot of time looking for anything else.
  • Wholesale club had no TP or tissues; They seemed well stocked otherwise but I didn't really look closely.
They all had potatoes but I didn't buy any because we just opened a bag.

I figure the people that would have normally bought TP & tissues last week but couldn't get any because of the idiots probably bought it this week plus a bit extra just in case (I would have bought an extra bundle if TP if it was available) and the store stock will be back to normal in the next week or so.

WA is now officially in the "stay at home" order. The governor made a televised speech and in that speech he said we were welcome to get out and exercise or ride a bike as long as we maintain social distancing. He probably meant bicycle but he said bike so as far as I'm concerned I'm good to go on the Silverwing!! Supposed to get a little bit of rain tomorrow, but I kind of enjoy riding in the rain. Take care of yourselves and enjoy your bikes!

Why bother with permanent porcelain when a tee spindle and tap hooked to a hose and trigger nozzle will do thrick? The question is...should I wash it off or smear it on?...either way yo gotta wash your hands.

I went out to Harbor Freight today. I was actually impressed. There were only 3 people in the store, squares marked on the floor where to stand for checkout and the cashier was wearing gloves. I didn't want to go there but I needed mechanics gloves for work since I got this handy dandy paper tonight saying I was an essential human being. That's probably the first time management at UPS has said that in a long time.

I also went to walmart. I got oil and filters to do the car and truck since it's going to be due very soon. Also bought veggies, vitamins and Melody got beauty products. The store didn't have as many people as usually at this time but it was actually the 3rd walmart I drove by. I wasn't going to walk amongst the other overloaded panicing mouth breathers. There wasn't any tp, hand sanitizers, peroxides, iso alcohols but they had less people.

After work tonight (4am) the trucks brake light came on so I needed fluid. Stopped by kwiktrip gas station and they had a good supply of everything but said tp was on backorder. But I got the brake fluid I needed and I was the only customer.

Stay inside and be safe everyone.

Oh there was a gas station down the road from that one that had a sign saying free tp for the elderly. So there's a plus in humanity I think.
