After a hour or so of riding at highway speeds my tach starts to bob up and down some what wildly? Takes more than a hour of ride time before it starts? Speedo stays steady. Bike seems to run good and normal, guessing this is probably a cable lube issue or should I be looking for something more?

Probably a cable deal or possibly internal lube to the tach.

Start by removing the tech then putting a micro-drop of 3-1 oil around the rotating piece at the input, turn the tach internals a bit with a small screwdriver to distribute then let sit upside down for an hor. You don't want any more than just a tiny bit and only light oil as too much or anything else will get into the front fogging the faceplate.

If that doesn't fix it I'd go for the cable next, may cost a couple of $ more despite the shipping savings but I'd get a real Honda cable from your dealer rather than one of those generic eBay ones.
