The radiator on my '80 CX has so many holes. Mostly it leaks where the core meets the tanks, but there are other pin holes scattered around. I bought another one off of eBay and its only slightly better.

Does anyone know the going rate to get one repaired? I'm thinking that these are so old that corrosion has gotten the better of them.

Are there aftermarket ones available?

Has anyone re-purposed one from a different type of bike?

Thanks.

I had a quote for a recore last week. The price of copper is sky high at the moment and the quote was $800. Double the price being complained about a few years ago.

Maybe in the US it's cheaper.

I think that was the fellers in the UK fitting modded mini minor radiators like this one. Needs bracketry added and at least one spigot moved.

The filler neck should be OK on the opposite side.

Am considering this at the moment.

Need to find out who can move the needed bits for me as I can't weld this stuff with my equipment.

The thingy is still on an ongoing diet.

i used to use a guy out at cavan who did work on the side for some harley clubs - but hes not there anymore -
theres a mobile welding service .. $$$
if theres a trailer maker or truck body builder anywhere nearby - they are usually a good bet to do a bit of piece work -
otherwise - in the marion industrial estate at the back - behind the first roww of shops you might fiond something.

Fwiw for local Oz repairs dont discount those smaller race prep shops...
I used epicycle in NSW(Ducati race prep)to weld a stainless muffler...and in Vic when going to the local noise tester(Peninsula noise testing Seaford) discovered that they do race prep...nice Gs1000 on the work platform...they do wheel conversions to 17inch etc...but will turn one offs like spacers etc....
All below $ that most engineering places/mechanical services would quote...

It cost me £250 in the UK for a complete radiator recore exchange service, the radiator now looks brand new - perfect :)
The UK will no doubt be much more expensive than the US as we get ripped off in the UK.

Ah sometimes you can get some 2nd hand ones on e-Bay by some unsuspecting seller, but the last time I had to buy a 2nd hand replacement radiator it was £60 2018, now about double that price. But of course you really have to trust the seller is truthful in their listing.

The irony of all this is that a couple of years ago I was trying to get a bunch of stuff out of the garage so I wouldn't have to scrap or store them so I offered a bunch of parts for $5 per item + actual postage cost and nobody was interested in the 2 GL500 rads.
I believe I still have them but I won't be able to get at where I think they are until the weather warms up a bit more AND since they've been tying up valuable storage space and I'm no longer in a hurry to get rid of them I'd want $50 CAD + postage now.
I believe the major difference between the GL500 and CX500 radiators is the location of the inlet at the top (centred for GL, at the side for CX) and I'm not sure how difficult it would be to adapt one to fit the other.

The mounting points on the engine yoke are probably different, too.

Could be, although I have a vague memory of someone using a rad from one on the other (or at least trying to) but it was a loooooong time ago.

All the "expensive junk" we might have thrown out..
Bike bits, oil cans, etc...even the kitchen ware the wife disposed of years ago is selling in the antique/niche shops now......

But when does keeping become hoarding??

According to rubbish lifestyle programs presented by dubious experts a thing must be disposed of if you haven't used it in the last few weeks.

Or it's hoarding.

And that's a mental illness.

No, they're pushing towards more expensive higher density housing. The show is probably funded by property developers.

Australian commercial TV now is just an endless infomercial and best boycotted.
