I may have a set that came off my bike, they attach to the H-Box and are about 18" long. the ends are curved down and angle cut.

They are however loud, makes the bike sound like half the Harleys out there do.

Probably have to adjust the jetting a little to run them properly but I don't think my PO did thus the reasons my plugs were pretty black - the opposite of what you'd think - but he had the carb screws all messed up too.

I want to put straight pipes on my 82 gl500. I would love to get a louder, fuller sound out of it. Any suggestions??

(time to put on the curmudgeonly old guy hat) Do yourself and your neighbors a favor and leave the mufflers on. There is already too much noise in this world.

The CX actually sounds more like a Ducati or other Euro Racer. Nothing like a Hardley.

I performed a muffler-ectomy at the MIA listers request a few moons ago, the original post is 404 on the old list. I bent up some straight stick and it was actually rideable and relatively quiet unless you got up on the throttle. Next to cops and hospitals I think Dozer mentioned starting out in 3rd gear at low revs and no one would notice. Not my cupOtea, but to each his own.

One downside was his mileage went way down, but not because of any jetting issues, the sound made the throttle too tempting while riding.

If you're out there in the ether somewhere, Dozer, let us know you're still among the living.

I'm about to try something like this as cx's do have a very ducati like sound.

Whenever my 18" straight pipes show up I may extend them more to 24 or 26". I want them to end at the wheel.

These bikes don't seem to be as loud if lengthen the tail pipes. Which is generally how things work anyway but I test fitted a 3 foot pipe on it from a fence and it putted pretty nicely and fairly quiet.

Not really. Loud pipes annoy people. Riding safely, in the correct gear, and paying attention to your surroundings saves lives.

Even in the correct gear, riding safely and of course paying attention- I still would like louder pipes to HELP alert the deer that I am coming down the road and avoid an accident with Bambi. If I am safe and upright, I quite frankly don't care if people are annoyed that they can't listen to their N'Sync music for a few blocks because of my pipes.

Not to mention how rude it is to interrupt their cell phone conversations while they drive.

Actually, LOUD VALVES saves lives.

Ask my daughter about the guy down the street who used to leave early in the morning for work with loud pipes. He woke her up usually around 4:30 a.m. Once in a while I would hear him as well, but then I tend to sleep like a log sometimes. Now he has moved away and she is at college.
