When I bought my bike, the speedo did not work. The original owner claimed that it quit and he replaced the cable, to no avail. I figured the speedo must be funny (turning the tripometer knob doesn't turn the readout most of the time) so I grabbed a CB750 speedometer that pretty much definitely works. Fiddling with the inlet can cause movement of the hand on the speedo. I mounted the speedo onto the bike, but it made no difference, still not working. The cable clearly turns when the front wheel is moving, so my thought is perhaps the previous owner replaced the cable with the wrong unit or attached it incorrectly somehow. I dont know anything about older speedos, could it be possible my original speedometer is broken, and the 750 speedo is simply not compatible? Or is the cable just bad? What do?
