If it's that squiggly rubber water pump gasket the only reason to use any sealant would be to hold it in place while you reassembled the items. You'd be just as safe if not safer usng something water soluble to temporarily tack it into place.
either im reading this thread wrong,or.......

i was under the opinion that the silicon sealant was to stick-seal the innards of the mechanical seal to the existing metal cup,thats left in the case.



i agree with marshallf3,best using the rubber gasket only on the cover.

hey marshallf3,no need to appologize,my head is still spinning just from reading your post about fuel gauges,never mind attempting to understand it.lol
