You overcooked the mech seal...ouch! And the wrong sealant...Permatex thermostat gasket sealant (gray). When you pass the cup over an open flame (propane torch on low or gas stove) as soon as it begins to sizzle, pluck it from the cup. The seal will come out pretty clean and not buggered up. I wouldn't chance that one.
