Agreed in principle to buy the above mentioned 1980 CX500, waiting on confirmation email w a pix of the head stock label, title & engine #. It was miserable in his unheated garage yesterday so only did a brief inspection, purchase price depends on a more thorough inspection in a heated space.

Seller became difficult to reach & excuse after excuse so I moved on.

Looked at a decent 82 GL500i yesterday and then meet a nice fellow forum member, @YINZER412.

The 82 bike will have different ignition than the earlier bikes. (1981 and earlier CDI).

Is that also true on 82 GL500I's?

Looking at a 2nd GL500i Monday, so still on the hunt...

Both years of the GL500, naked and Interstate, use Transistor Amplified Ignition.

CDI or transistor ignition for CX500C from 1983

Hello, I have a CX500c form 1983 and always thought that these types had a CDI ignition. Now I beleive that there is in fact a trnasitor ignition in my bike. Could that be and what is the (dis)advantage of a transistor- compared with a CDI unit? Can you simply replace a transistor- with a DDI...

Well its been an interesting journey to get here. I own it:

1981 Honda Silverwing GL500 Interstate
Paperwork is in order, transfer it this coming Sat. To be delivered, I'm still working 5.5hrs NE from home. The bike is 'only' 90min north of me so should be delivered 10-14days from now.

Needs some carb love and front brake work and of course new tires.

Paint on the bike is very near flawless, 1 small dimple in the tank thats hard to even see. The saddle bags are a tad rough along the bottoms, but serviceable

Thanks for the help so far, plenty of questions coming in the next 2months.

Well that blows

1hr delay in picking up parts bike, and delay pushes GL500 pickup at least 24hrs, probably a couple weeks as I'll be in Scranton or Philadelphia for work the next couple of weeks.

Yep, and they were quick to arrive and repair at no cost, but couldn't make it on time to pick up the GL.

Parts CX pick up from another member went great. Thanks @YINZER412 appreciate the CX.
