What type sealant do you use on the rubber when doing the (Shep method) water pump seal? Thanks, AGB-1

The shep page just says a silicone and I bet just about any type would do since all that's needed is a light layer. On rubber stuff I'm a fan of Permatex RTV Black if you have it sitting around. Really we are probably only talking about two or three drops smoothed out along the bottom surface.

Then put it together with the impellar over it and let it sit for decent drying time.

Loctite 515 Gasket Maker. It's pretty in pink.

Like most loctite products, it only sets when there is no air/tight fit. Basically if it drips inside your engine casing, it stays liquid, unlike Silastic, which may form small pellets of rubber that block up your oil lines.

As with any sealant, a smear is all that's required, dont use a caulking gun and run a bead. Just a little on your finger and the thinnest layer of product.

My $1.95 AUD.
