You know, that orrible powdery white stuff you get on neglected engines

I dont do pretty but hate to see a motor covered in rust and oxidisation

so before doing the internals I'm cleaning up the GL500 engine that was

given to me recently.

I still have to get in the nooks an crannies but its getting better

and less horrible to look at.

It much nicer to work on a clean engine anyway.

I suppose I'd better paint it or something to protect it from going crusty again

Dont be daft thats way too corrosive

(Not as bad as Vegemite of course, that stuff'd strip a lavatory bowl

Its illegal in civilised parts of the world y'know)

Just went round the local cheapo shop and bought some wire brush attachments

for a drill. Brassy coloured things and most of it comes off pretty easily

I'm down to nooks and bloody crannies now

and typically, in there the old paint is sticking like sh*t to a blanket.

Getting there......

How has it it fared sans primer?

I might nip up B&Q later and get a can

does it come in a range of attractive colours?

I have used Dupli-Color Engine Block Enamel, High Temp to touch up my radiator...No problems, no primer, little prep, minor sanding, wiped down with thinner, and sprayed. Also picked up a can of Dupli-Color silver, (looks like our motors) equivalent to a bead blasted finish.

Since Shep reared his I'll rear mine

I used the "Duplicolor".......been 6 months now....have ridden it in the HOT 90 degree heat many times...so far no cracks, peels, chips and it still looks as good as it did when I got done painting it.

I touched up the "Honda" logos nameplates on each side with a "Sharpie"...no problems with those either.

Good luck Reg.....as you know the successful paint job is all in the prep work !

I was only ever interested in the Satin Chrome finish Reg.It lasts for years and is easy to over spray when required as a touch-up and needs no primer.

looks plenty good enough for me

'attractive colours' was me being somewhat facetious as usual

although I did wonder about a satin black but it isnt important

as basically, I just want to protect the alloy from oxidising.
