I Just bought a CX 500 -78. It starts up and works fine up to 3800rpm and then it just starts to run unclean. The sparkplugs are black and dry. Ive tried to change the CDI and tried a nother pair of carbs(clean ones) but still the same problem. The coils seem to be ok, 7,4 ohm from led to cap.Checked the main fuse and it looks fine. Batery fully loaded and leads are fitted tight. Ive tried to adjust the "fuelmix" but regardless of my attempts iam still stuck with the same problem?



Is there anyone on the other side of the atlantic that has a clue???

with your problem,you have covered a fair bit,until the experts wake up here is some good reading on your stator[it seems to cause problems on the early models

Ok, Ive tested the resistance between each of the three connector terminal tabs. It was 1,3-1,3-1,1 ohm. Stator voltage check was 28-18-18V.

So I guess i need to replace the Stator.



It is never the easy quick-fix problems...... well well winter is coming very soon so i have time....when spring comes i will have a kickass caferacer parked outside my house!!!

If you are doing the stator, it would be a good idea to replace the cam chain and guides, and do the mech. seal while in there. I would also replace all the oil seals that normally you couldn't get to. Check the oil pump chain also. All the info you need has already been posted on this board somewhere.

It may be that the PO worked on the carbs and reversed the primary and secondary main jets.This has been done several times over the years.

shep you old hound i was going to say the low speed windings on the stator and or the carbs jets were wrong

Another thing to check as well is the vent in the Petrol cap.If blocked can cause a vacuum and a fuel delivery problem as can a clogged/reversed in-line fuel filter

Yes it´s a Guzzi. Thats the look that I´m aiming for in my cafe-rebuilt. I´v had a lot of bikes before(before = before kids, house, wife etc.....)and am now trying to find my way back.. I´v found all the parts i need to build a realy sweet cafe-racer.
