I've been looking into pod filters to clean up the look of my GL but just wanted to hear from guys who are running them if they have been able to tune their carbs to a near stock running condition.

Thanks,

Andy

The boys over at the Honda CB750 Custom forum have a "stickly" on this very subject. Your mileage may vary.

The stock air box is what you need to run with the CV carbs your bike came with Shocked

If you insist on putting pod filters on CV carbs, you can expect poor performance, lower fuel mileage, and a bike that runs like shit in general.

You need to buy a set of real carbs (CR, FCR, Mikuni) to be able to use pod filters.

This is the end of this subject, now put your stock air box back on, and let your CV carbs work the way they were designed to do.

I think part of the problem with pods is people likely run WAY too big of a filter, and you may need a little more length between the pod and carb.

This is all just hypothesizing though, so take it for what it's worth. This winter I will be converting to pods and will have more facts then.

Where there is a will there is a way. It may not be easy but it can be done. There's more than enough people on the boards running them. How much different than stock those bikes run I can't say.

If you look for negative things with anything you are going to find them.

Yup ! Exactly..... And I have six of these Keihin Piston Slide carbs ... They work fantastic. !

I have pods on gl and it works great. I have great pickup throughout the whole throttle, and it really huals 5000 and above. I have straight headers with the jetting at 90/130. Running a bit rich but no big deal. It really cleans up the bike getting rid of the air box.

How does it sound with the straight headers? I was looking at making my own H-Pipe then some little internal pipe baffles. Thanks for confirming that they run fine with pods!

Find a company that specializes in carburetor set ups.

There is a company called 6sigmaengineering on E-bay that will build you a jet kit based on your specific needs, you include information like pods, mufflers, straight pipes, altitude, etc.

Re-jetting alone will NOT solve your problems, these carb kits are designed for all RPM ranges and all customizations.

It's nice and loud. My taste is louder the better. But it doesn't sound bad at all. It's not annoying.

Well I've heard enough positive results so I've concluded I'll run some Emgo pod filters with a custom H-Pipe with some Internal baffles from JC Whitney and get some 90, 125, and 130 jets so I can play around with it!

Thanks Everyone!

My old 1977 CB750F worked great with these. But when they got old and unusable (within 2 years) I did not bother to buy new ones due to the ridiculous price that they command. I bought an airbox and that was it.

Steve F (member on the boards) has a cafe that he has pods and a custom h-box on but I don't think he has internal baffles in h-box but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Correct, no internal baffles in the custom h-box and I gotta say no problems with running it or the pods. Certainly cleans up the bike and runs just fine, the only problem I have is the wind getting under the open face helmet once I get to around 140kmh
Being a Cafe bike though I have felt obliged to hit the ton once or twice

Cheers

Steve
