I found this post: http://cx500forum.com/index.php?/to...p__84788__hl__smoke__fromsearch__1#entry84788 it seems to be the Exact thing that my bike is doing except that my bike is all stock. it will idle fine then out of no where jump up to 3000 or so RPM for a while then drop down to normal all while sitting in the driveway. I thought there might be an air leak somewhere but would it cause this much of a change just idleing?

I am new here and am somewhat mechanicly inclined, but don't know a whole lot about carbs. which I think where the problem lies.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys

after a while running I see kinda white smoke from the exhaust and if I rev it high it will produce a darker smoke?
My 1st suspicion is a Carb boot leak combined with faulty float heights and or sticky Float needle valve.Covered here,

Thank you, Going to check for air leaks and also I'm going to pull off the carbs later and check the floats.

Take your time to read some of the other threads in that section because it can take a couple of goes to get things right with these carbs. They were an innovation at the time from the old Monobloc type slide carbs and now to the progression from Carbs to fuel injection and,"Fly-by-wire" throttle controls.
