Are the rocker arm holders interchangeable btwn left and right? I mean I know that if you took it off them put it back on same side...but if you are replacing one and the seller on ebay doesn't specify the side, does that mean they are interchangeable? They look the same, I think. Except for the different specs re: in and ex valve adjustment, I mean... Thanks!

No they are not as such. They must be matched to the orientation using the manual. There is an A type and a B type.Getting them in the wrong position will cause premature cam-shaft failure and uneven wear on the Cam follower faces.

Having read you other post about overheating the engine if you brought it to me I would recommend a full engine strip and get the crank shaft and crank pins/pistons checked by an engine specialist engineering company.

Even a partial seizure of an engine usually ruins the crank and stretches, malforms the rods.I would recommend looking for running engine as a replacement.

I wouldn't have thought about them being interchangeable. Thanks for the advice shep, but I am going to give it a whirl as the heads are already at the shop and the pistons are turning free. Also I don't have a ton of cash to replace engine. I figure the worse that can happen is you are right and I have to replace the engine anyway, or I go up in a fiery ball of flame..JK..Anyway thanks again. Jim, I'll be in touch.

PEAS OUT!

The holders are interchangeable

they have the same part numbers and are not 'handed' ( L or R)

If by holders you mean Cam followers/Lower rocker arms then they are NOT interchangeable within one side e.g the forward one has a different angle than the rear one.I have done this job several times and have also seen then incorrectly fitted and the damaged caused.

If you look on this parts fiche you will see the A and B types,

You need a 5 and 6 part on each side AND correctly orientated

Yes, we've established we're talking about the holder and rocker arms

you see when you remove the cover.

You can mix and match these, no idea about all the gubbins further down though

Tomorrow I'll try and dig out and see if I still have a couple of the ruined/gouged Cam followers from one of those basket case engines I've mentioned Reg.

Also when I had the cam shaft checked the profiles were shagged.I've hung onto it as I can make one good one out of two as I have a cam-shaft with a shagged thread at the impeller end but good profiles
