Depends what you mean by aftermarket air filter boxes? We're not talking about K&N pod filters right.
Lot's of discussion RE replacing the airbox with individual filters. Some Like Em, Some Don't

Personally, I'm sticking with the stock airbox (K&N universal installed) but here is an old forum thread which gives the issue a pretty good going over...
yes replacing to individual ones. thanks guys.
Well I'm going to give you some good advice that some may not like but if you aren't smart enough to know how to rejet a set of carbs to the correct air/fuel mixture that the engine needs and check and sync to make sure everything is on track then don't do it. Sure some have had some pretty good dumb luck with throwing the right configuration and being happy but others have had adverse effects.

If you don't know if you're the kind of person to figure it out and decide to do it anyway try not to break any of the components that you remove so when/if the bike runs like a turd you can put it back in.

There is a strong following of people that say mod the hell out of things and sup them up as much as possible and there are others that will tell you that if honda intended it they would have done it that way.

I had pods once and know how to jet and rejet and didn't get the right configuration to the bike. The only reason I even tried running pods is because the PO destroyed the airbox and I didn't have a spare. As soon as found an airbox it was better than new.

If you're still interested I think the pods need to be 54mm.

I have zero problems with modifing things to no end. I love the challange of making things and making them work well. I built my headers from scratch and they work great and sound great and my bike runs fine with individual filters. Jetted at 90/122, Header/filters/500ft above sea level. Everyone has their own vision.

hey thanks alot for all the input guys! 50 gary where did you find your pods at?

Joe
Blindstitch mentioned the size of the CX carburetor inlet which is 54mm. Go to the K&N site and search under universal filters for motorcycles. They give detailed dimensions. I also bought some UNI pod filters and will not do that again, I had poor luck with durability. I'd tell you the K&N numbers if I could remember them off the top of my head. BTW, Autozone sells K&N and can order them for you, I'd get the numbers first.
