So on every bike I've ever come across, the rubber shield that sits above the engine, in the "V" forward of the thermostat... that's always torn up and missing. Is there a replacement rubber piece that I can install? I have no problem drilling out the rivets and pop riveting in a new piece. I tried buying a new one once a few years ago, but the NOS was just as brittle and prone to coming apart. It tore almost immediately.

You talking about the one that bolts to the heads or around the fan Shroud? Aircraft Spruce sells a redish. orange material that goes between the cowlings and engine baffles ,cuts and forms pretty easy. You could make the thing out of a sheet of aluminum if you have the skills and time. Reason Honda used rubber would be cost of production.
