Hey guys, new to the forum here with a '79 CX500 that I picked up this spring.

The bike has 42,500 miles now and rides/looks like a charm with one exception.. I need to replace the fork seals...

I've purchased the seals, but before I just dig into things, I want to have a pretty clear plan of action on the overhaul. Does anyone have any tips/steps to doing this? Any info would be great.

Also, what oil do you guys recommend for the forks?

Been a 4 wheel mechanic for too long, now to work out the bugs on two wheeled creatures,

First thing you should do is go to this post, at the bottom 'stichs' post you will see a link to where you can download the factory repair manual for free. Should be all the info you need, it's a pretty straight forward operation, albeit it can be a bit of a PITA the first time.

Don't use ATF as suggested in the manual, times have changed for the better. Use 20 weight fork oil instead.
