Where do you think it's leaking.

I would put the bike on the centerstand and open up the 17mm inspection cover and see if there is the right amount of oil in there or to much.

I have heard of some people filling up the final drives incorrectly through the air hole at the top instead of the inspection area.

If it is leaking on the inside and not the air hole it would be better to source one on ebay.

The rear drive of my GL650 Interstate has suddenly started overflowing a bit of oil, splashing on to the tyre. Could this just be because it's winter weather?

Is yours the final drive with four studs bolting it to the swingarm?

It has the right amount of oil visible in the inspection cover.

Any thoughts on this? I noticed this afternoon that there is some coming out of mine at the breather as well.

I'm not sure whether it's a 3 bolt. I have a 1982 Custom though, if that says anything. I'll have to examine it more closely tomorrow, but it's coming from the hole on the top part "12 o'clock" or so to speak.

Should I not be riding it?

How long have you had the bike? Have you checked the oil level?

It's 3 bolt. Put the bike up on the centerstand and open the inspection cover with a pan under the final drive. If oil comes out it's to full of something.

It's also a good idea to replace the final drive oil every few years. It's cheap and only takes a few ounces.

I'll have to check it out when I get some daylight and free time. I rode it to work this a.m. and it seems to not be dripping out, but on Monday it got pretty cold-- 15F at night, so maybe that's a culprit.
