Recently I have been considering which American Motorcycle I would choose to purchase and ride. I don't believe it would be a Harley Davidson because it vibrates too much for my style. And I am not sure about the Victory either. Oh as far as being made in America I mean bikes that have been considered American made. We all know that parts and pieces are made world wide. So bikes that are considered American bikes.



I think I would like an Indian motorcycle. And I say think because I know very little of them.



So which bike would you choose?

Jeez is this a question. American made or Made in America. I have a feeling 80% of actual American Made is going to have the same S&S powerplant.



Buell was a good group that got killed.



Indian bikes are big suckers. Long and wide. But would you trust a company who has been in business 10 years out of the last 50?



If I can go for Made in America then I choose the

If I have to go for the other side it will have to be something custom by Exile cycles. I must be rich if I'm buying American so why not go all out.

If you want something to stand out buy an Indian 4cyl from the 30's or 40's they are going to be 5 $$$$$ or more but there is little to compare style wise.



If you are looking for more performance look for an MTT Y2K bike it will be a total show stopper when you roll in to the sound of a turbine and start melting pavement.



But if you want something that will be good last forever with a little sport to it and a have a great forum to help you along the way buy a CX500 or something good from a mom-and-pop bike shop from another American to spur the American economy with real "American" products!



You buy a new Harley they are half Chinese steel and the other half is steel from rusted then melted Classic American muscle cars. The Electronics are made in china with child labor and re-boxed here With the Label Made in America [from foreign components] I believe the Leather is made from Mexican cattle. But THE HD CHROME IS SECOND TO NONE!!!!!!!!!



OK i am done bitching and i am not sorry that I offended HarlyD and the Marlboro man

but if I bought Something American It would be pre-1960 and offbeat like A GLENN CURTISS LAND SPEED MOTORCYCLE

Since nothing's really made here these days and I don't think it implies any better quality anyway I'd look at a Triumph.
Tough question.... more so if you are not much of a fan of S&S powerplants -

I like the Harley Dyna Street Bob in the "denim" flat finishes; a nice, simple motorcycle. I really like the looks of their Iron 883.



On the other hand, Indians are currently manufactured in Kings Mountain, NC, which is just down the road from me. The catch is, I could buy two brand new Sportsters for the price of one Indian!



Think I'll just stick with my CX...

Its a shame Honda closed the Marysville motorcycle plant, I think all of their new bikes sold here, including the GoldWing, are now made in Japan again. I have a Valkyrie and I used to feel it was partly American because it was built in Marysville, but I don't really feel that way now.

I built up a custom shovelhead in the early '80s but it was never much more than a bar-hopper. I would like to do something like that again around a big bore S&S but the end result would have to be ridable for distances too. Its doable but expensive.
I think I'd go for the Indian that my 7th grade teacher had in 1943. I don't know what year the bike was but it was beautiful in my eyes. That was the beginning of my 65 year long fascination with bikes.



If I can't have that Indian, I'll just stick with what I've got.
If Buell would have had time to develop I'd have said them, but since Harley killed them off I guess the only other one I'd say would be the xr1200.
Reading these post I can see we have a devoted group of Honda guys. Alright to spice the poll up a little more. Your given a unlimited amount of money to buy any American made bike. Stitch your not even allowed to choose an American made honda. And the bike must be a 2010-11 momdel. What bike will it be?
Well doesn't that throw a turd into the mess. Sure I want a bike but now I don't know.
Blindstitch, This may make it easier. You may still keep your cx. This would be an extra bike. There is that make it a little easier?
Well at least now I have something to ride. But i'm going to have to put more than enough thought into an american 2011 bike. I really like liquid cooled.
Other than HD what qualifies as a new American made bike anymore?



Question #2: How long do I have to keep it before I can sell it?
Good point marshallf3, We'll say you have to ride it at least three times, Once from the dealership, two to show it off, and three when you ride it to the next dealership to trade it in for a honda.



I believe there are three manufacturers of "American" bikes.



Harley Davidson

Indian

Victory

ok, so while touring the Barber Motorsports Museum, ny dad points to a bike and tells me that's like the one my grandfather had... He's pointing at a 4-cylinder Indian.. Are you f-ing kidding me?? What happened to that?? I would totally take that in a heartbeat.



Or I guess if I had to go american made, I'd go with a Billy Lane ride.
O.K., since I get to keep my GL650i, and you're giving me lotsa money, I'll take this Indian off eBay.

I'd probably even keep it for a while.
I think Harley has come a long way in building a dependable, high quality motorcycle. But they don't fit me. Their seat is low, but the pedals are way the hell out front, I'd have to put a wood block on the brake pedal. I like the low center of gravity a Harley has.



I'd have bought a Harley only: They are way over priced (used)

They don't fit me

Everybody, their brother, sister, and cousin ride Harleys.





But if it was American or nothing, I'd buy a Harley.
