Ok guys bought a new helmet today 3/4 with face shield fits awesome nice and tight like it should be works with my glasses, now the face shield is not as smooth as i thought it was gonna be. moves up and down nicely but seems like it locks quarter of the way up then i have to give a little tug to get pull the rest of the way.. I wonder if it's that way so it don't fly open while riding or should it be smoother will have to examine this before deciding bring it back or see what happens really like the helmet other then the shield.

Its almost cetainly a lock stop for additional air without making the visor fly up. If you want to check, take the visor off, and any mounting plates ( take a pic of them first in case they are handed or set at a particular attitude. Clean all of the plates and visor around the mounting points until no dirt of any kind remains then apply a single spot of silicon oil on the mounting plates within the path of the visor sweep. If this is jerky movement it will be gone or significantly altered. If not, its meant to be there

There might be some adjustment on each side of the helmet. Typically they look like oversize plastic fender screws. Try loosing them with a quarter or screwdriver. Of course, be carefull, if you scratch something you may not be able to return the helmet.

It's a Z1R metro the guy swore by them i don't like it. It is going back, it is very flimsy. shell is thin and i don't feel comfy with it on when doing 60 on the highway the helmet sucks in and puts crazy pressure on my head. not a good thing. Gonna get the other helmet was 50.00 dollars more a felt more like a helmet. maybe these was used for mopeds or something. thanks for the info guys. I a Glad to be apart of this forum. However i do like the 3/4 design. I would not hald to take the helmet off as much as i do with my other one. And I dont feel as restricted with a 3/4 design will keep ya posted on what i find today. for there will be no riding today the winds here are of excess of 40 something mph gusts i rode in it last night the cx did just fine but gonna be helmet shopping today and bought new hand grips yesterday to replace the tore up foam ones that came with the bike when i bought it thanks again everyone

IMO do not cheap out on a helmet. Where is there a more vital piece on your body to protect?

Reminds me of my hockey coaching days (kids), child would come to 1st practice with $200.00+ skates and a used helmet,

always had to have a talk with "those" parents about priorites.

And make darn sure it fits properly AND is comfortable or you'll be tempted to leave it behind on occasion. When I first started out there were few to choose from but just as I did this time, I went around and tried on quite a few different brands and sizes to find something that was right - then ended up buying it used from a guy on CL. It was still new so to speak, he had just bought the wrong size over teh internet and rather than returning it he went to all the cycle shops until he found one that fit right.

When I get on a bike, putting on a helmet is pretty much as automatic as putting on my seat belt when I get in the car even though we're a "helmet optional" state - just eye protection is mandatory.

Having been a non-professional (but still as enthusiastic) motocross and enduro rider most of my life I can't count the number of times a helmet has saved me. I also had one incident on the street where I lost it going around a corner and was temporarily knocked unconcious. Wasn't for long as the bike was still puttering when I came back to but had I not had that helmet on it could have been far worse.

I would stick to a HJC(FS-3), Shoei, or Arai for a 3/4 helmet their quality and price follow the order I listed them from low to High but all 3 are very good helmets that are well made and have a company that will stand behind their products.

Did some researching and went out and bought a new Gmax helmet it is very comfortable, removable insides for cleaning, fits perfect. It is a 3/4 with full clear shield, plus has a smoked half shield you can flip down over the cleat and for summer riding comes with a visor, everything i was looking for plus the online reviews was excellent and peeps say they also stand by there products. I am pleased after many helmets tryed on and one brought home and returned I can say this will be a great helmet....

I bought a $250 HJC.felt great in the store but once I paid for it & went out on the highway it rattled & became very uncomfortable.Had a serious pressure spot on the right side of my head which hurt after 30min of riding.I went to return it for a better one but they wouldn't take it back. They said it is now used & they couldn't resell it.The manager told me to take a spoon & carve out the pressure point inside the helmet & as for the rattle, they all do it.

Nice. Now I end up using my old helmet more than this new one.Is that a typical procedure with a helmet ,to carve out the foam on the inside to make it fit better?
