I have a 78 CX 500 and right now it does have the factory seat and seat pan. The only way the seat attaches to the bike is the click type release levers about midway under the seat. The seat does not attach to the bike in any other location. Is this correct or am I missing something?

There is a tongue under the front that holds it to the frame.

Also there is a bracket attached to the seat that can be put in the helmet lock so nobody can get it off if you don't want them to.

I wonder if that tank too was changed, and thus the removal of the tongue? The tank and seat together are held in place with one bolt. Once the tank is 'bolted down' the seat just tucks underneath where the tank bolt is.

The tank might have been changed at one time, but when I got the bike it does have an orginal tank on it. The tank also has a rubber cushion mount where tank mounts to the frame. I don't think my seat pan has any type bolts that protrude from the seat pan to mount a tounge. Or does the seat pan have threaded hole so the tounge can be scrwed into the seat. I'll have to check when I get home.

How does the tounge fit to the bike? Does it mount under the rubber mount, under the frame area or under the flange from the tank?

This isn't the same seat but at the front there should be two bolts sticking down and they hold on the tongue.
