I am wondering if anyone knows where I could find the original paint colors/codes for an 81 cx500c. The tank has a few spots where the paint has chipped or rubbed off and I want to cover them up and make the tank nice till I can afford to have it repainted. Thanks!

Call your Honda shop. They can look up the code and order you one of those touch up bottles of paint. I just found this out a couple weeks ago when I called for my GL500 paint code.

Well I have called all the local honda shops and none of them were able to find the color code/paint and most of them said to contact color rite and talk to them. Already called color rite and they know that they don't have the colors. they know the colors existed but they can't make them and don't have the code. Does anyone know if an 81cx500 c manual would have it in there? I might just go to an autobody shop and have them match it.

Larry you seemed to have luck... if you ever get the chance could you call and ask them what the code would be?

And Oh, the other method, to have a paint shop camera-scan a part of your bike and make paint to match. I got a rattle can of paint for a VW a couple of years ago, and I thought it was such a great deal I took my hardbag in to match. This time the guy was either too busy or something was wrong, and after two weeks I just got my hardbag back and called ColorRite.

I just now posted that I ordered from ColorRite, but I had my paint code for my 82 GL500. I was able to find the code in a couple of places.

Maybe you can fish your info out of these two websites, one gives color names of your bike, and one gets you from color name to code.

THANKS!!!! found it "Candy radiant blue custom" (PB-103C-C) Now I just need to find the dark blue color.. (HALF WAY THERE!!!)

EDIT: Called Honda USA, and the gave me the only color they have on record (off hand) for the 81 cx500c which was cosmo black metallic. (B100MU) So I think I have the two colors I need. (the gold strip is fine and i will deal with that later.) Now that I have those two codes I think I am good to go! Just need to make sure the black is correct though.

Thanks again for all your help!

Black tends to be pigmented with either blue or brown so that it fades in the sun to a dark shade of blue or dark shade of brown. This might explain why you think your bike is blue. Unless it has chrome fenders, check under the seat for the painted fender color that is out of the sunlight that will come the closest to telling you the color, unless someone repainted it.

I have chrome fenders. I think the top of the tank was black but the sides are blue (it is a lighter blue). So I think I have the two colors I am looking for. Ill try to take a picture tomorrow and see what you guys think.

I have discovered that no one makes the paint anymore... PPG even says that the cosmo black is out dated and that even though it has a number it wont work...

Anyone know of someone who will mix paint?

EDIT: going to wesco to try to match it to paint chips that they have... wish me luck...
