I have recently purchased a 1979 CX500 that had been sitting for a while.

To my surprise after putting in a new battery and ignition (It had been sitting in some guys back yard for god knows how long) it started and ran for a minute (WHAT)

However, the second time I tried to start it the blade fuse by the battery blew. It may have been my own stupidity, but not having any blade fuses handy, I jumped the connection with a small piece of copper wire. (I wanted to prove to my wife that I didn't waste my money, and got a little ambitious) When I tried to start it, one of the wires leading from the main wiring harness to the starter on the handlebars, turned red hot and the starter made no noise.

What am I doing wrong?
