Hi all I just joined this forum. I just bought a 1981 GL 500I Silverwing a few weeks ago.

It is a little ruff around the edges. I am waiting for some carb kits to clean out the carbs and the gas tank of rust and sludge.

I cant wait to get it going, it seems like a great bike.

Welcome aboard Bill! I see you already own the "Grandchild" of the twisted twin in your "Twisted 4". I have a ST1100 in addition to my GL650. The twins are great bikes and given just a little care will run forever. I think this board will be one of your better resources as you restore your twin.

Thanks guys. This bord has great info. I spent the beter part of today cleaning up the GL.

I am interested in getting a set of saddle bag gards, do you guys know wear I can find them new or used?

We've got a Selling and Buying Forum, there's always eBay or your local dealer.

It's the off season, dealers will often have bargains or can be talked down in price on accesories.

Well we were neighbors. I moved out of NY in 95. Been in the Atlanta area ever since. Best move I ever made.



The guards show up here and on Ebay every once and a while. Usually command a pretty hefty price tag. Be nice if someone with welding skills could fab up some, How hard could it be, some round bar and flat stock to match the marklands.
