new CX500 Deluxe

Okay, i'm going to be getting a new '79 CX500 Deluxe. 500cc is a bit... moderate. since it is a honda are some engine swaps that are fairly easy or some engine mods that may increase some horsepower to add some extra 'oomph'? I know the 650 engine can be swapped but you kind of need the whole front end of a 650 and by that point i'd have ended up buying a 650 anyway.

Suggestions? Comments?

I don't think it/s worth the trouble or expense. You could have one of each for not a whole lot more $. or , just get the CX... and save up for a CB750 which is an inherently more modifiable motorcycle and not too expensive to put 100+HP at the rear wheel...

Good point, and noted. I am getting a CX500 Deluxe at an unbelievably low price (i.e. 700) so i thought it would be worth checking into. For that much though i should ride it in the interim. But, since I am getting it, are there some mods that may make a difference? (pipes, bolt on turbos, tires, shocks, etc etc) My modification experience is more with diesel cars than bikes.
Cleaning and adjusting the carbs is one of the biggest mods you can do. If the bike isn't getting fuel right it won't feel like it has any power compared to one that's fine tuned.

After that most of the speed mods involve the driver losing weight instead of shaving it off the bike. I do like my Mac 2 into 1 exhaust but it probably benifits more by shaving the extra metal off.
Power mods for these bikes are rare. Dropping weight is about all you can do.

Scudman has kits for Mikuni Flatslide carbs. There is also the Motad exhaust which is supposed to add some power, but costs nearly what you paid for the bike.

Sounds like a deal. Umm, I saw one guy on here (a while back, didn't register until recently) who had a flat black with a tail light mod and a seat mod (beautiful bike) also a '79 if my memory serves. anyone have any that they recommend? The bike looked like a cafe racer with the changed bars but i loved the rear end of the thing, especially with the double tail light and longer seat (thus removing all the rack features aka weight)

Another thing. The plastic on the front is excessive and i've seen quite a few with double headlights and smaller windscreens. Any ideas?

I'm open to any and everything. If I really like the bike i'm open for anything and not too concerned about pricing but this is 100% original and original owner who is proud of the bike. I just want to improve on the bike for me.

Does your bike have the Vetter fairing, or the stock nacelle?

Not mine yet, and fairly new to the CX500's as a potential owner.
Are you just feeling out a few bikes or what?

Not at all, buying this bike next week but it's not in my hands yet. I like the bike but feel it needs more pizzazz. Being I live in New Jersey I'll have more time off the road than on the road so I need something to consume my time (i.e. UPGRADES!) I was thinking of trying to put the CB900 dual disk brakes on this bike to give it a bit more stopping power (the 500 slows like a tractor trailer, imo) and i've seen some awesome stuff on here but I want more of an everyday bike (since I only live 5 miles from work), that looks original (as in unique not all from 1979), and i can take to New Hope to turn a few heads.

If I was just feeling out a few bikes I would have put "Feeling out CX500 Deluxe." I've been riding for years but this will be the first bike of my own. My grandfather rebuilds bikes and i grew up riding old Indians passed along in m y family (20 points if you can guess where i grew up). Since it will be MY first bike I want it to be uniquely mine. Hence all the questions.
