Hello all. I just finished reglassing my front fairing as there were cracks and chuncks missing from it. I am getting ready to reinstall my stereo, and I have a problem. Someone before me Really Really jacked the wiring on this thing. I want to get back to the original color codes and wiring so I can install the stereo and not have it running when the bike is turned off. There must be at least one 12volt supply wire up there that only comes on with the ignition and I am guessing at least one that is always on all the time. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. Please take a few minutes to add your location to your profile and to add your bike's year and model to your signature block.

Regarding your question, see this thread. Fairing wiring harnesses show up on ebay occasionally so you may be able to swap yours out if it's really butchered.

Sounds great. I'm happy it's working.

You may want to check your VIN plate located on the steering head and verify the bike's year. The final year for GL500's was 1982.

I do know it is indead a 86 how ever the GL part I am not sure I am sure it is a 500. I have a front fairing but no rear trunks.

I bought this bike from a gentalman that didn't speak alot of english. He told me it was a 750 which I have long since found out is not the case. I got it for only 800 dollars which for a running bike is a steal. It had alot of damage up in the fairing, on the right inside close to the mounting brackets HUGE chuncks of plastic missing. I used Duck tape on the inside of the Fairing to give myself something to glass to as I didn't have a mold and as I said pieces were missing. When the first outside layer was dry, I removed the tape and glassed the inside. I may go back at a later date and Bondo the whole thing and resand it as it didn't come out perfectly smooth even after sanding it for about 3 hours. Still some dips and what have you but at least it isn't going to break off and land in the road somewhere anytime soon.

Thanks again for your help on the wiring.

Deacon,

Fiberglass and Bondo will not hold for very long. You need to get a product called Pasti-Fix.

You can find the product at My link

If you are missing big chunks you will need a different fairing.

Oh, yeah, send me an email with your email address ... I have GL500I wiring harness.
