I think you mean MPG. I generally get about 46 MPG... but I tend to get into the throttle now and again. Treat it nice and you shold get 50 MPG.

I always fill between 90 and 110 miles.

I have a 1982 naked GL500 and always get over 50 mpg. On my last tank I got 58 mpg. I have never gone on reserve and fill up when I get 200 miles on the odometer (which I reset when I fill up). I also carefully fill up all the way to the flange in the top of the tank - to be accurate. I am going to take the petcock off this winter to make sure the reserve is actually working. BillRod

Wouldn't the rest of the 'World' be using KPL not MPG?
US Gallon = 3.78 Liters

Imperial Gallon = 4.5 Liters

So people in the UK, Canada and Ireland get "better" MPG because there is more gas in their "gallon".

On a good tank if I'm passing someone I usually get up to 90mph. But then I drop back down to a reasonable speed.

As for MPG and tank size they are all different.

My custom has a 2.9 gallon tank. I usually hit reserve around 2.2 gallons. Depending on riding style I can get 92-110. I always figure that i'm getting the lowest mpg so I don't screw myself. With my new tank I should get 266-316 not sure where the reserve will be.

I've been averaging about 45 mpg's this season.  I go about 150-160 miles before reserve, and I've let it go to reserve 2 or 3 times this summer just to make sure it still works.  Most of the time when it hits 140 I fill it up just so I don't have to worry about reaching down and flipping the reserve switch in the middle of a corner.  That's all with the big deluxe tank.

What do you get in MPH or how far can you go on a tank full before turning on reserve?

I filled up just today at 186 miles on my tank and I hadn't gone on reserve yet. I'm sure I would have had to in the next 5 miles or so. I usually figure I'll get around 50 MPG but I've seen both more and less.

Don't forget when you read the answers that a lot depends on what model bike the respondent owns. CX tanks vary from GL tanks and even whether you ride a different model of CX. You need to be specific.

I ride a GL650. Get 50+ miles per gallon consistently. Ride mostly flats averaging between 45 and 65 miles per hour, some hills, modest windy conditions. Longest trip to date was a 1,000 miles to Southern Utah and back. Mileage dropped below 45 on some stretches of highway. Throttled back a tad to see if mileage would improve and it did. Usually hit reserve at 190 to 205 miles. Used to ride with petcock on reserve all the time until I ran out of gas on the way home one night. Learned the value of setting the petcock to "ON" position.

Bill

On every GL I have every had I stop to stretch at 75miles and stop and fill and stretch at 150 miles. I rarely ever hit reserve before then ... unless I am well over 70 MPH.

UK vs US gallons, if I calculate in UK gallons I'm closer to 60mpg in the US about 50 mpg. that's on my CX500 Custom 1982 with a 12L tank - Usually fill around 150 miles.

In Canadian talk, that's about 240 km/tank, and about 5 Litres/100 km. What makes me sick is that my VW TDI station wagon regularly gets about 4.6 L/100km (or about 56 mpg US)

It makes it hard to justify that I ride the bike to save fuel costs

My bike goes to reserve after burning only 2 gallons. I wonder why? I figured that it would take longer than that.

Seems like they just want to know that when we go to reserve we have more than enough gas.

If you want more till you hit reserve you can cut down the straw on your petcock.
