Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

Let it known that in the month of June, in the year of our Lord, Two Thousand Eleven, there will be a new CX/GL rally, under the Banner of the HTTA. This rally, to be known as the "Mountain Momma" rally will take place in the Great State of West Virginia, starting on Friday June 10 and ending on Sunday June 12, 2011. Additional information will be posted shortly. Anyone interested in attending please express your intentions by posting to this thread.

This post has been brought over from the SE rallies thread and slightly edited. I hope it will be simpler for all concerned if we hold it to only one thread.

Our destination, for the Mountain Momma rally, will be http://oldclarkinn.com/ in Marlinton, WV. That is the web site, I don't know how to make it a link, maybe someone else can help me out there. This is a place I stumbled across after meeting (briefly) with DavidF & JerryB at Watoga State Park on Tuesday evening on the way up to the Amish. I was not able to stay there, they don't take check-ins after 9. I did get a tour of the Inn and the owner's motorcycle garage behind the Inn.

Thats right, I said motorcycle garage, as in the pictures below!

This building is directly behind the Old Clark Inn. It belongs to the inn keeper and he was making it available to some Trimuph/Norton riders who had one of their number go off the road the day before. They told me this was their 4th year to stay there, they were all from Pa.

This is the front of the inn. I got there too late to get a room, no check in after 9!

The owner's bike is on the left, the one on the right belongs to his wife.

Everything you need to clean up your bike is in this shed area at the side of the inn. He even has air hoses to top off your tires!

This summer the Inn has offered a deal for groups where if they want to have a cook out, the inn will prepare & furnish everything, the group does their own cooking and the inn cleans up. The owner does not know if he will offer that service next year or not. (edit) I have talked to the owners since the original post and they are still receptive to doing this for us. The final decision will be made after the first of the year.

This location could be linked with Watoga State Park which is near by. Jerry & Dave stayed there on Tuesday night and might want to comment.

With that, the floor is open for discussion.

(edit) At this point in time (11/6/10) I have reserved a block of 6 rooms. They do not have competing rallies or groups scheduled for that weekend and if we have enough interest I can expand on the number of rooms. If anyone wants to get togeather with a friend and share a ride and room it will probably save some on the room cost. Anyone who wants to make their room reservations directly can certainly do so, just tell the owners that you are with the Mountain Momma rally. I will be glad to get local brochures on possible rides sent to you by the local welcome center. Just as a point of interest, one of the owners is on the cover of the ride brochure!

OK all you rally hungry riders out there, here it is, a brand new rally, in a brand new (to us) location, with a host & hostess who cater to bike riders! What did the song "West Virginia" say about heaven?

Zeg, it would make a great cross country trip! All you would have to do would be to cross over into Virginia and you would have a coast to coast ride! Maybe we can come up with a prize for the rider coming the longest distance.

Gene

PS: I realize for a true c to c you would have to cross Va to get to the Atlantic but it could still be a wonderful trip without that!

Sad news... I am still in school. I might see about skipping a few days but I don't think I will be able to make it this year. (next year is promising since I may have to take a year off of school).

Zeg, that is sad news. Maybe you can make the Amish rally in August.

Gene, By the look of those dates, you'll have to do that rally without me bothering you.

Don, its interesting you should mention that! Just yesterday I was thinking about your visit and I will go ahead and let the cat out of the bag. I don't know how much time you and Chris are planning on spending with Mabel & I but my thought is to try and sneak in a mini-rally at TWO. The GL650 will be yours to ride while you are here and I will ride the hack, maybe pull the trailer if we get some interest. Chew that over and let me know. This is Chris's trip and I don't want to impose on her. It would give her a chance to attend the Grand Ole Opery, they just recently reopened after the flood. BTW the Mountain Momma rally can work out well for those who like their comfort and those who like to camp. Watoga state park is just a few miles from the little town and rally headquarters. DaveF & JerryB stayed there on the way up to the Amish in August. It was sort of wet but maybe June will be dryer.

Ok, August is also great. Any chance you will be able to make it to the Amish rally?

Dave, unfortunately the dates Don gave indicates he & Chris will be on a cruise to Alaska about the time of the Amish. Their free time on this trip comes after the cruise, in September. If they want to I am hoping to squeeze in a trip down to TWO, Don on the GL and me on the hack. The problem is that due to their return flight we would have to be at TWO on Thursday and Friday and return Saturday morning. Don't think that will work for too many folks! However, those who would really like to see Don again would plan ahead and be there. BTW when you get a chance would you put up an info post on the Watoga park.

Dave, Sorry for that stuff-up - Chris and I will be in TN 10 to 18 September on present planning - haven't booked flights from Vancouver to Nashville yet, but the Melbourne (Oz) to Vancouver and return ones are "set in concrete".
