I say we need to change Traveling friends to only four catagories according to past usage. Most of the rallys and get togethers have been between the Northeast and southeast areas. The midwest falls right in behind with their organized rides & get togethers. I have seen little from the rest of the divisions as Charles has laid them out.

I suggest four divisions: 1. The northeast, 2. The southeast, 3. The midwest, and 4 All the rest. Gee, it ryhmes. It's an omen.

Although I agree with you I'm not sure if your breakdown is accommodating enough even if the areas aren't used.

I think I would split it up like timezones but even that has problems.

Maybe East-coast, West-coast, Midwest, and whatever that other area is called.

Having a million options gets to crazy after a while and it's not like the US members are the only members. Anything outside those parameters can just go in the basic section. That's the one I prefer to use.

Good call though.

Is there really enough message traffic to warrant more than one travel forum?

I don't see the point in having the regional sub-forums.

What about 3?

East of the Mississippi

West of the Mississippi

Canada

Edit...

Damn I guess that screws up the Midwest thing.

Maybe

East-coast

Midwest

Everywhere else.

I think it should be East Coast, Midwest, West Coast, Other Countries and an Amish Rally Section.

I agree with Stitch.

We really get a small percent of HTTA traveling friends west of the Mississippi which is west of the midwest.. How about: 1. Mississippi east 2. Mississippi West and 3. Canada.

We never have Europeans, US West coasters, South westers etc, planning rides on our site. Most of all the Traveling Friends ride/rally planning involves Mississippi east riders.

I also agree with David. in that, A seperate page for established rallys such as the Amish and the TWO would be a smart move also.

I don't see it as confusing, and think it should be left the way it is.

If it were possible see the content of all the sub-folders under the main "Travelling, Friends, and Trips" forum, it wouldn't be so bad.

As it is, there are at least two parallel threads going for the 2011 Amish Rally - one under NE, and one in the main forum. And unless a person scrolls down the page, he probably doesn't even realize there are threads in the main "Travelling, Friends, and Trips" forum. I didn't until very recently.

Too much classification just adds confusion and redundant posts.

Phil,

If you check you will see that the members from around Oregon and Washington have almost as many postings as the east coast. That is why I suggest what I did.

I do know there are members in CA who don't do much together, but they might if the zones made more sense. Also, you need to realize that CA is as long as 6 southeast states on the east coast.

I think the "time zone" idea is pretty good, Eastern ST, Central ST, Mountain ST, Pacific ST.

I also think the dedicated Rally threads for the most popular is good.

I would prefer either:

Eastern USA, Western USA, Canada, TWO & Amish. (5 sub threads)

Or

EST, CST, MST, PST, Canada, TWO, & Amish (7 sub threads)

The main thread would be for all other stuff.

Of these two options, I like the 5 sub threads best.

We can find the stuff for our own area in each thread.

Maybe you can start each thread with the state if it is for more local types.

"CA new ride in LA" or "WA lets ride around the ONF"

Bingo

Is that possible?

I think it was I who made the push for different sections in order for people to find other local riders, rallies and rides in their area without having to repost the "anyone here from xyz state?".

But when I made the push, I had in mind that the posts would be viewable in the main heading.

Having the traveling section broke up a little was hoped to facilitate smaller group meetings or perhaps localized chapters.

But eventually, we may have to admit that these will soon be becoming classics and joining with the vintage motorcycle groups even though they are great daily riders.

If they had continued the cx series for a longer time; or even through to today, then the subchapters would be similar to the subchapters of the Concours owners group or ST1100 riders who's bike have had 10 yr or more production runs. I'm sure the advances of motorcylcing would have made a very good looking motorcycle out of the transverse vtwin design by now.

There are several commentaries on the uniqueness and continued practicality of the CX series and of continuing to use them as commuters and even touring bikes. One such commentary was when Greg Fraizier (through a donated bike) used a GL650-I to ride 2-up through most of his one inter-american tour.

I did not see sub forums work. In the ameture radio forums it just isolates the operator.

One forum for all. I say. Just my thought.

I too think this section is way too segmented for the amount of volume even during the high season.

Maybe distill all these suggestions down to a list of points and one person email or submit them to Charles to see what he thinks.
