Hi
Does anyone know if I can use the K&N Air Filters with an 1982 CX500 Eurosport. If I can't use them does anyone know of different aftermarket air filters that would be suitable?

If you mean in the stock airbox, the CX650E uses the same filter as the GL650 so I would expect that the CX500E would use the same as the GL500 but I can't say for sure BUT it wouldn't be hard for you to look up the part numbers for the stock filters and see if they are the same.

FWIW, I use mine in winter (= extreme conditions) so I had to replace the paper filter every year. I didn't want to spend the money for a K&N or UNI filter so converted an original paper filter to accept a piece of foam filter material that I can remove and clean instead of replacing it every year

I have had a K&N in my 1981 cx for years. Love what is does. It still uses the original air box.

Did you change any jetting? The '82 GL500I I picked up last summer has a K&N, but I have yet to tear apart the carbs to check jetting. It runs pretty great overall, though doesn't always pull cleanly through the rev range.

I have carbs from the 1982 gl bike. I just remounted them into the cx500c 1981 frame system. I Just reset the idle jet screws. Not sure if the jets are different on the gl with the faring and bags to my cx500c 1981. The set up works great.

I'm running K&N in my 82 GL with no changes. It may be more expensive ($50) but I think it's worth it. I put roughly 6k miles on it every year, so I change it each year. Yes it is washable but I would rather put in new.

I would suggest that you check the filtering capability of the K&N.

Last I checked, the K&N will allow fairly large particles to pass with a low efficiency. Sorry, I don't recall the exact numbers off the top of my head. But I do recall I investigated it as comparison to a standard paper filter. I did not make the investment in the K&N.

It seems wasteful to me to buy a washable filter and then throw it out instead of washing it. ...

Until I retired I put about 10,000 Km on mine every year, mostly winter driving & a lot of dirt roads when it was warmer so the paper filter needed replacing every year (I can't imagine a filter lasting less than 3 times that on paved roads when they aren't covered with salt & grit).
I got fed up with spending that much so I converted to a foam filter that I could wash out and re-use.
And no, I didn't change the jetting.

I have a feeling that a properly oiled foam filter doesn't let much more past than the paper one.
