Hi all, just joined group, please see background pages for all Hondas owned since 1968. Just bought 81 GL500 in parts; have it together for the most part; missing left battery cover and decal that goes on back seat just above rear light and having a hard time finding them(HELP)?; am putting in new ignition switch, seems the old switch, in the process of falling apart, appeared to be off, however, battery drained to death while sitting for a few days(THOUGHTS)? Found fuse cover, right air intake cover, basic decals and Repair Guide, however, $100 for all mentioned(GUIDANCE)?.....Thanks, Lee

Welcome to the forum, Lee.

The parts you need show up frequently on ebay. You might also try putting a post in this forum's Buying and Selling section.

Regarding the battery draining, are you certain the ignition switch was the problem? Often a previous owner has added accessories, and he might have wired them such that they are never switched off. It's also possible the battery is simply defective and cannot hold a charge.

You can place a multimeter in series with the battery to check for a constant current drain when the ignition switch is set to off. The multimeter should be set to measure current when performing this test.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to download a copy of the factory service manual for your bike. See any of Blindstitch's posts to get the download link.

There is usually someone here 24/7. This forum has a world wide membership, so you will always find some help in a short time. There isn't much about these bikes that hasn't been covered here in some way, and the fun we have is the style of the personalities.
