So I had acquired my 81 custom from my step dad after he laid it down. Wanted to build something fun.

There was no going back to stock at this point, so I jumped on the bandwagon and opted for a cafe project (Phase I)

Went through all the fluids, brakes, plugs, fork seals, etc. Got a big ol' 7" black headlight, made a speedo mount, lined the tank, ditched some unnecessary stuff, blacked the wheels, and got some clubman's.

Well after the shakedown run (maybe 45 minutes) my 30 year old back did not like being leaned over the tank to such an extreme. New plan (as of now) is going street tracker. went taller with the bars, and working on the seat pan mount.

I'll keep everyone posted with her evolution.

As she sits today. Seat will get notched around the shock mounts and sit lower to hide the daylight above the frame, as well as a few other fun things I have planned. Enjoy!

Got more done today. Trimmed and mounted the seat, chopped more off the frame, and chopped the exhaust down.

Seat is the Street Tracker 1 from hotwingglass.com

Love that tail, I'm going to do something similar to my girl's bike when she's a little more confident. How tough was it to mount?

Actually it was kind of a pain, but to no fault of the seat pan itself. I modified the area where the rear of the tank hits the frame, and chopped a lot of frame off the rear. I'll snap some more detailed photos of that whole process the next time I'm out at my friends shop. I have to clean everything up back there still too.

Here are some shots of how I mounted the seat, plus some progress pics. Tapped the front 2 available holes on the frame and made some nylon spacers. Rear bracket is off the factory seat, narrowed, and welded inside the chopped frame rails.

Also, AZCX, here are some shots of where I trimmed the seat and ginded the frame. for fitment.

-Made a license plate bracket
-made a steel plate under the fiberglass seat to disperse weight
-mocked up a cusion
-made a flyscreen template out of duct tape and posterboard. still need t o fiberglass it.

I like the license plate mount and where did you get the front wind screen?

License plate bracket I made. Flyscreen is being made, but thats just a mock-up template. That's OD green duct tape over posterboard, but wanted to see what it would look like. If I decide to go for it I am going to make a mold and fiberglass mine and a few for my friends with 7" headlights.

Got more done yesterday. Laid down the glass for my seat pan so I can add foam. Played with the shape a little. Cleaned up my home made bars and got them ready for primer.
Still may change the shape of the windscreen. Not 100% sure on it yet.

Chive on man. Hurry up and get on your cafe conversion. If you're lookin for good seat pans check out Vintage Fiberglass Motorcycle Seats. XR Flat Track, Street Tracker, Road Race, TT and Tail-Light License kits.
Thanks. I've got a pretty solid build plan. Most of my pieces will be here this and next week. Motor comes out of the bike next weekend and sub frame will be cut off and re welded soon after, whenever I find someone to bend it for me so i can weld it. SOON!

Thanks, I'm always down for meetups. We should try and get people together to ride the 3 sisters around San Antonio.

Wrapped my seat pan last night. Little teaser on the color scheme. Forgot exactly how much I hate contact cement/pot glue

Got the frame capped and painted, cleaned/painted the shocks, and went ape sh!t on the exhaust. Still undecided about the titanium colored exhaust wrap, but it's growing on me.
