Hi guys,

Anyone in the UK have impellers they're willing to let go? I'm in the UK.

I am building up two engines and I don't have any impellers :(

Thanks in advance.

good luck for sourcing locally-the UK CX community used to be (is?) strong so a used part may be offered -if all else fails consider CSMNL-sourced a new part several months ago....add to your watch list then when available act quickly as often there will only be a few (no I don't work at/own CSMNL ..lol)

There’s one on eBay now for £63, collection only from Cambridge but you could arrange cheap Hermes collection/delivery with seller.

On the subject of impellors.
No point telling you they're like rocking horse sh*t

Many had their splines wiped over the years and/or the rear of the camshaft
got damaged.
Having been aware of this for some years now I did mull over
alternatives if mine ever failed and I reckon it's quite feasable.
(Well I'd do it anyway)

Cant recall if I made or kept any notes but from memory
the idea was to:

Remove/cut rear of cam shaft short of cover
blank off and seal hole
cut transfer pipe between the two clamps and mount pump
there, inlet from rad, outlet to rear cover.
I wouldn't use a 12V 'hot water pump' from Ebay cos cheap flimsy crap
but an automotive auxillary/run on pump used in many cars
some plumbing, mounting hardware and pretty straightforward control module.
A 'smarter' PWM one is an option but a simple one may well do I reckon

Simple version:
Engine cold, do nothing
Engine temp goes over say 80C, turn on pump
the thermostat will help control flow

Smarter version:
Remove thermostat (maybe)
engine cold do nothing
engine temp passes say 40-50C, run pump slowly
and increase speed relative to temp.

other 'smart' options are could be included especially if run in conjunction
with an electric fan.

You know how to get in touch with me if you want to have a go

There is probably is a point not too far away when we realise the days of really inexpensive CX500 parts are gone.
I generally use the "official Honda" parts pricing as a guide-e.g. OEM fuel tap original pricing $100 (over-inflated+++ for what it is agreed:p)-a new OEM item for $50 is reasonable.....
Maybe we have forgotten the times when we'd go to the Honda dealer and pay >$10 for a bolt or o-ring lol

It was only three years ago I bought two for £25 delivered. A month ago someone was selling one for £14. But disappeared before I made my mind up :)

I think I'd want it always on. Remember, the cooling system doesn't just remove heat. It also evenly distributes heat throughout the engine. It's one of the big advantages of water cooling.
