this past weekend when i hid my wires in the bars i ditched the horn wiring and the horns themselves, not realizing to make it street legal in az i need horns. they won't even be audible over the exhaust but rules are rules. i don't want to just throw the original horn configuration back on. one of the horns don't even work anymore after some testing. i've been thinking of everything from an old time bar mounted horn with a squeeze ball on the end to the air horns from auto zone and mounting them under the seat. does anybodyhave any ideas? i was going to take the 2 horns, make a new bracket to only mount 1 in the original location and put it on but its not working out the way i planned. any advice would be appreciated.

I put a Mazda MX-5 horn (single) on my GL. About the same volume as stock, but smaller, single, and not rusty.

Keep in mind that your horn button switches the Ground, not the hot (+12), wire. If the horn you install is designed for switched hot (like the Mazda horn), it will either start blowing as soon has the bike is turned on, or it will blow the fuse. I had to work up an insulated mount to keep from having a full time horn.

On my vtx I got a set of horns off of 740 bmw at the junk yard. those babies rock, but they are big and ugly but i put alot of miles on that bike and i want to be heard. on my cx500 i'm going to fore go the horn i doubt if i do more than local cruising with this bike, the cops really have to desperate to check to see if your horn works and besides its on illegal if you get caught!
