If it was imported from Canada there should be a plate attached to the steering head that has the VIN plus the model, model year and date of manufacture (they were usually manufactured in the last quarter of the year before the model year).

And if it came from Canada it is definitely not a CX500E because Honda Canada didn't import any of them (not to mention that they weren't made for the 1980 model year.
I know it went to a dvla test center to be checked and came back out with the proper paperwork i must had not a mot center that was all done before i had it the chap i had it off was disabled rider which is what i am i know its all legal in the uk
I think the PO actually had the rear cover off and used a standard screw/bolt to tighten the tensioner and then put the rear cover back on. At least that's how it looks.
Thats how it is ive just brought the proper bolt and seal for it just waiting for it to arrive so i can do it

So, camchain adjustment becomes an engine-out procedure. Brilliant!

I think that it looks like the hole may have been widened? If so a rear cover would be needed to work with the proper bolt.

I believe you are correct, the hole does look bigger. If that is the case the stock bolt will not work as the rear case is now... What a bummer. Not only is the chain adjustment an engine out procedure now, using the proper bolt will need the rear case to be repaired... :cautious: previous owners

So UK paperwork aside, what model and model year is it really (according to the plate on the steering head)? That is what you will need to know to get correct advice on keeping it running and for getting the correct parts to fit it.

The "E" merely indicates that it's an engine number. Look for a plate riveted to the steering head or the frame serial number stamped into the steering head.
